Jazz Dance

Jarek Cemerek is a renowned choreographer, teacher and dancer, active all over the world. In the fall of 2023 he gave his master class at the most prestigious art school in the world – Juilliard School in New York and choreographed in Boston. He is also invited to serve on the juries of international dance competitions. He has received several awards for his work, most recently an extraordinary award as a professor at Anton Bruckner University in Austria.

He began his artistic career as a classical ballet dancer and gradually moved into contemporary dance. After his first engagements in Ostrava and Prague, he worked as a dancer abroad with Tanztheater Wien, Compagnie Thor in Brussels, Willi Dorner Compagnie in Vienna, Stadttheater Bern, Royal Opera House in London and many other companies.

At Sadler's Wells Theatre in London, he presented his choreography Void, created for the dance company BalletBoyz. (Cemerek was selected from 160 choreographers.) As a choreographer, he was invited to the Juilliard School in New York and also taught at the famous Steps on Broadway. After winning the audition, he worked as a teacher at the New Zealand School of Dance. On the Czech dance scene, he won the Dancer of the Year award and his choreography Void Amongst Humans was awarded Dance Work of the Year. In Prague, he created the multi-genre work The Loser(s) as a composer, choreographer and director, which was staged with a new cast after nine years of performances.

He has also worked as a teacher or choreographer with many dance institutions and festivals, including DV8 Ballet Junior de Geneve, Carte Blanche – Norway, Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris et de Lyon, New Zealand Dance Company, Gothenburg Opera Dance Company, Korea National University of Arts, Dance School of Shangai Theatre Academy, KHiO Oslo, Skanes Dance Theater, Codarts Rotterdam, Dance New Amsterdam and Peridance in New Yorku, Palucca Schule Dresden, Balettakademien Göteborg, The Place – London, the Royal Ballet School in Holstebro (Danemark), Iceland Dance Company, NorrDans (Sweden), Lenka Vagnerová Dance & Company Prague and many more.
